Giffords returns to congress. Insanity still wins out.

Back in January, I had written an article on the Arizona shooting, where lunatic Jared Loughner shot at Gabrielle Giffords. I never published it, since I really didn't want to get into politics at the time.

However, after the articles of yesterday, it's a little late for that.  Not to mention, Gabrielle Giffords returned to her congressional seat last night

So, below the break, you will essentially see a snapshot of January 12, 2011 (thank God for blog date/time stamping).  Remember that far back? How there was requests for "civility" in all things?

How did that work out?

Now, if anyone would like to send in a request, or suggestions for topics that are not politically-based, please feel free to send them in.  I'd really rather not have another week like this for at least three more months.

I try to stay out of politics.  God knows I try to stay out of politics.  I'm starting to run out of breath and spilled ink talking about how much I hate politics.

I believe the last few days of stupidity over the Arizona shooting have shown why.  When Steven Colbert, Jon Stewart, and Ann Coulter are showing more sanity than their "real media" counterparts, Houston, we have a problem.

Looking at the media spinning like whirling dervishes in the aftermath of the Arizona shooting, someone needs to take their medication.  A lot of media outlets are starting to look unbalanced ... I don't mean "biased towards a political party."  I mean they look like tin-foil helmet wearing, Dennis Kucinich / Ron Paul supporting, UFO-reporting rabid dogs. They leapt on the sickening massacre at a Tucson political event, and accused anyone to the right of Joe Liberman of inspiring shooter Jared Loughner.

Apparently "violent rhetoric" is to blame.

Wait ... rhetoric ... really?  Hmm.  Maybe someone should tell President "whose asses to kick" Obama to tone it down.  After all, he predicted "hand-to-hand combat" with political opponents and has said that "if they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun" -- making Obama the first American president to advocate gun fights since Andrew Jackson......

And if you believe the above paragraph is serious, I introduce you to the concept of SARCASM.

"It's not that both sides did something wrong; neither side did anything wrong. The drama queens need to settle down."

 You know who I stole that quote from?  Ann Coulter.  Yes, Ann Coulter is being more mentally balanced than the media nutjobs right now.  Everybody now needs to tone it down.

Then, on the other hand, you get Chris Matthews, who on Monday night recalled Palin's statement, "We're not retreating, we're reloading," and he said, quote, "THAT'S not a metaphor."  Somehow implying that it's Sarah Palin's fault ....

Um, first, Mr. Matthews, it's only NOT a metaphor if, I don't know, SHE SHOT SOMEONE.

Second, as for violent rhetoric, I will refer you to Jon Stewart, and his quote "You can't predict crazy."  You have no idea what will set some nutjob off.

At the end of the day, all evidence points to one conclusion: shooter Jared Loughner is a psycho.  A stalker.  Lone gunman incarnate.   He had been stalking Arizona politician Giffords since 2007, and most friends had described him as some variety of Democrat, but I think that we can say that he has not only fallen off of the political spectrum, but possibly off the edge of sanity.

An example?  Why, I'm glad you asked.

ABC News reported: "One Pima Community College student, who had a poetry class with Loughner later in his college career, said he would often act 'wildly inappropriate.'

"'One day (Loughner) started making comments about terrorism and laughing about killing the baby,' classmate Don Coorough told ABC News, referring to a discussion about abortions. 'The rest of us were looking at him in shock ... I thought this young man was troubled.'

"Another classmate, Lydian Ali, recalled the incident as well.

"'A girl had written a poem about an abortion. It was very emotional and she was teary eyed and he said something about strapping a bomb to the fetus and making a baby bomber,' Ali said."

I'm going to submit that there's something a little off about this fine, upstanding fellow.  Like someone should up his medication to somewhere around eleven.

Then, recently, I read in the NY Times: "After another student read a poem about getting an abortion, Mr. Loughner compared the young woman to a 'terrorist for killing the baby.'"

Wait, what?  Please hold.  Processing

And Paul Krugman, also of the Times, said, "we don't have proof yet that this was political," and followed it up by saying that "odds are" that it was.  The Tea party was mentioned as well ... wait, we'll put into the Newspaper of Record that there is no evidence AT ALL that there's a political element to this, but we'll say it anyway?

Loughner read Marx, burned the American flag, and other things that I haven't heard of the Tea Party doing lately.  Or at all.  One right-wing website showed all of this and concluded .... that Loughner belongs to the insane party.

Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert have shown more sanity than the "real" reporters over the past week, and Ann Coulter has joined them in been more balanced.  How's that for an unholy trinity?

So, we have Democrats defending Republicans from people farther down the Left side of the political spectrum.  We have Ann Coulter blaming it all on drama queens, not Democrats, and Jon Stewart saying that this guy was nuts ...

To heck with it. I have a headache.
